How Hasol collects, uses and protects your information when you connect workers and employers across Kenya.
1. Overview
This policy explains what personal information Hasol collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Hasol app and website. We handle personal data in line with Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your phone number (required and verified by a one-time SMS code), and your name.
- Google sign-in — if you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your Google email, basic profile and a Google account ID. A verified phone number is still required.
- Profile and job data — the details you add to your profile, jobs you post, applications you make, and photos you upload.
- Messages — content you send in chats to coordinate a connection (note that chats can auto-expire).
Information we collect automatically
- Location — an approximate or chosen area, so we can show jobs and workers near you. Location can be left blank for remote roles.
- Device and usage — basic technical data such as device type and app activity, used to keep the service working and secure.
- Push tokens — a notification identifier (via Firebase) if you allow push notifications.
3. How we use your information
- To create and secure your account and verify your phone number by SMS;
- To match workers and employers — showing relevant jobs nearby and letting employers reach interested workers;
- To operate connections, tokens, featured listings and wallet features;
- To send you service messages and, where enabled, job alerts and reminders;
- To keep Hasol safe — preventing fraud, abuse, and misuse;
- To improve the platform and comply with our legal obligations.
4. What we share with other users
Hasol is a connection platform, so some information is meant to be seen by others. When you post a job, its details are visible to workers. When you connect with an employer, relevant contact or application details may be shared so you can reach each other. Your phone number and private profile details are not shown publicly on job listings — they are shared as part of a connection.
5. Service providers
We use trusted third parties only to run the service, including:
- SMS delivery — to send one-time verification codes;
- Google — for optional Google sign-in;
- Firebase — for push notifications;
- Messaging/media storage — job photos are stored privately and served back through Hasol;
- Hosting and payment processing — to run the platform and handle token purchases.
These providers only receive what they need to perform their function, and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.
6. What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information. We do not handle or store your wages — Hasol never processes payment between a worker and an employer. We do not share your data for third-party advertising unrelated to Hasol.
7. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Chats may be set to disappear automatically (for example, after 24 hours). Expired job listings are removed after a set period. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.
8. Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you;
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- Ask us to delete your account and data, subject to legal limits;
- Object to or restrict certain uses of your data;
- Withdraw consent (for example, turn off push notifications or job alerts).
To exercise any of these, contact us using the details below.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including phone verification and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security — please keep your device and account access safe, and report anything suspicious.
10. Children
Hasol is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the date above and, where appropriate, notified in the app. Continuing to use Hasol after an update means you accept the revised policy.
